Sania Nishtar;
SI, FRCP, Ph.D
Sania Nishtar is the
Founding President of
Heartfile , a
health sector NGO think thank which today is the most powerful health policy
voice in Pakistan and recognized as a model for replication in other
developing countries. She is also the founder of
Pakistan’s Health Policy Forum
.
Her areas of interests
are health systems reform, and cross cutting issues of governance and public-private relationships, reorienting priorities in
health and global health.

Her pioneering work in
the health sector has inspired many new initiatives, and shaped policies on
non-communicable diseases and health reform. Within the country, she sits on
many boards, is part of many initiatives and provides
strategic support to may
agencies on a pro-bono basis
.
Sania Nishtar’s scope of
work has several global dimensions. She is currently a trustee of the
Paris-based International Union for Health Promotion, member of the Board of
Governors of the Geneva-based Alliance for Health Policy and Systems
Research and chairs the Pakistan Lancet Series on Health Reform. She is also
a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Agenda Council, the World
Health Organization High level task force on Health Systems, WHO’s Global
Expert Panel on Health Promotion and the Rockefeller foundation/Brookings
institute’s Working Group on Private Sector in Health Systems. She has
formerly been on several international Boards, was member of the Clinton
Global Initiative and has chaired several global campaigns and programs. She has formerly been on

Sania Nishtar has been an
advisor to the World Health Organization on numerous occasions; she has
published over 100 journal
articles and is an author of 4
books
; she
speaks to audiences
around the world
and has been extensively published in and quoted in the
media
. She also provides frequent
expert commentary on health issues.
Sania Nishtar is the
recipient of many national and international
awards
including Pakistan’s
Sitara-e-Imtiaz, one of the highest civil awards, the European Societies Population
Science Award and 16 gold medals. She has also been named as the
international health professional of the year, 2007 by the Cambridge
biographical center.
Sania Nishtar graduated
from Medical school as the best graduate, setting a college record which
remains unbeaten till today and holds a Fellowship of the Royal College of
Physicians of London and the Ph.D from Kings College. She is presently based
in Islamabad and comes from the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.
